Salida Summer Guide

June – August

Salida Summer Guide

Summer is Salida's peak season. June through mid-August the town is at full energy — rafting, festivals, evening concerts, packed patios. Here's how to time it so you get the magic without the worst of the crowds.

June — big water and FIBArk

Peak runoff and peak whitewater. FIBArk weekend (third weekend) is the biggest event of the year — book lodging months ahead or skip that specific weekend. Days are long, evenings cool, wildflowers begin in the high country.

July — full season

Everything is open. River flows have moderated into family-friendly territory. 14ers are at their best (snow-free, dry). Monsoon thunderstorms build by 1–2 pm — plan morning starts. Riverside Concerts run Thursdays.

August — the local sweet spot

Crowds thin slightly after the first week. Warm days, cool nights, low river, perfect rafting for families. Late August into September is when locals tell their friends to visit — peak weather, smaller crowds.

Local insider tips

  • Start outdoor activities early — afternoon thunderstorms are predictable.
  • Book lodging 60–90 days out for July and FIBArk weekend.
